Alison Lundergan Grimes Launches First TV Ad
Posted at 5:36 a.m. on May 8
Alison Lundergan Grimes, the Democrat challenging Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in Kentucky, launched her first TV ad of the cycle on Thursday.
The 30-second spot, backed by a six-figure buy and running statewide, highlights the Kentucky secretary of State’s efforts to improve voting procedures for the state’s overseas military servicemembers.
The Democrat’s first ad comes with two weeks to go in the Republican primary, which McConnell is favored to win over Louisville businessman Matt Bevin. The seat is a top pickup opportunity for Democrats.
The spot is narrated by the mother of one servicemember, who says Lundergan Grimes brought both parties together to pass a law ensuring her son’s ballot would not be lost again.
“Because of Alison, that will never happen again,” Lyne Dickey of Paducah, Ky., says in the ad. “Washington should work this way.”
The race is rated Lean Republican by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.
