Anti-Abortion Groups Rally Behind Mitt Romney

Mitt Romney will likely pick up two endorsements from national abortion-rights opponent groups today, two days after former Sen. Rick Santorum (Pa.) ended his presidential bid.

The Susan B. Anthony List, which previously endorsed Santorum and had been campaigning for him, announced in a statement this morning that it is backing the former Massachusetts governor. National Right to Life is announcing its presidential endorsement at a press conference this morning at the National Press Club, and it is presumed the group will back Romney.

Romney has also picked up several endorsements from elected officials in recent days as the party moves to coalesce around him as its nominee to take on President Barack Obama.

“The difference between Gov. Romney and President Obama couldn’t be clearer, which is why our Board of Directors voted unanimously to get behind him,” said Jane Abraham, chairwoman of the SBA List board of directors. “It is the responsibility of all pro-life voters to now unite behind Gov. Romney. Together we can put a pro-life leader in the White House.”

The group plans to spend up to $12 million in presidential and Senate battleground states to mobilize voters.

Meanwhile, the Planned Parenthood Action Fund continued its “Women Are Watching” campaign today with a video comparing Romney to Santorum on women’s health issues.

“Think you’ll miss Rick Santorum? No need to,” the video’s announcer says. “On women’s health, Mitt Romney is just like Rick.”
