Updated, 3:31 p.m. | Rep. Bruce Braley is up with a new ad for his Senate bid touting his career as a lawyer — a résumé that’s caused the Democrat some grief in his bid for the competitive, open seat in Iowa.

In his 30-second spot, the congressman casts his oft-maligned profession as one of fighting for people and helping them solve their problems.

“Equal justice under the law is what this country is built upon, is one of the things that motivated me to want to become a lawyer, and fight for people,” Braley says in the ad, which shows footage of him talking to a variety of people in Iowa.

“You have to get to know people to be an effective voice for what they care about,” he says. “I’ve spent my lifetime trying to be the voice for someone who has a problem that they can’t solve by themselves.”

Earlier this year, a GOP research group, America Rising posted video of Braley derisively referring to Sen. Charles E. Grassley, R-Iowa, as “a farmer from Iowa who never went to law school, never practiced law” at a speech in front of a group of lawyers. Braley later publicly apologized to Grassley for his comments.

Braley’s new television ad hit the airwaves Tuesday and will run on broadcast and cable statewide indefinitely, according to a release from the campaign. The campaign will put at least $70,000 behind the spot over the next week, according to a source familiar with the buy.

Braley is running for retiring Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin’s seat. He will face the winner of the GOP nomination, which will either be decided in the June 3 primary or a subsequent convention.

The race is rated Leans Democratic by the Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.

When asked if his son should have chosen the legal profession instead of the military.. a great man responded…

” I would rather have a daughter in a bordello than a son in law school…at least it is an honest profession…”

I bet any money that Braley won’t be touting the endorsement he received fom the Communist Party USA when he ran for the House in 2006.

Despite claims by those opposing liberty, we are not free to change our moral standards without risking irreparable damage to civilization.

Just moved to Iowa last year and can hardly wait to cast my first vote as an Iowan for someone other than Bruce Braley.
