California: Gary Miller Posts Outtake Video on His Website

Rep. Gary Miller (R-Calif.) is embracing a video of himself that was mistakenly posted on YouTube and distributed to the media by Pete Aguilar, his Democratic opponent in the 31st district

Aguilar’s campaign found video of Miller stumbling through the filming of a television ad. The outtakes were posted on the YouTube channel of media firm Revolvis Consulting, which advises Miller on media strategy. The video included unfortunate fumbles, including: “I’m ready to keep fighting for Washington.” The Aguilar campaign edited the video and released it on Monday.

Now, the Miller campaign has posted the video at the top of its own website. In a press release today, Miller campaign manager Chris Marsh explained the thinking behind highlighting the Congressman’s outtakes:

“You should have seen some of the ones that weren’t in the outtakes! It was a lot of fun making the videos, and even funnier when we got a chance to see them, like the outtakes at the end of a Jackie Chan movie.

“We learned two things: 1) never film near an airport and, 2) always read what the technician loads in to the teleprompter before you go live!

“Gary and the rest of Team Miller got a kick out of Pete’s ad and all we hope is that he continues to say Gary’s name. We thought it was so funny we put it up on our website. I wonder if we need to declare an in kind donation to the Aguilar campaign for this?? Thanks Pete!”

The video can be seen here:

Miller and Aguilar are running in the redrawn 31st district. Aguilar is favored to advance beyond the June 5 all-party primary, while Miller and state Sen. Bob Dutton (R) are battling for the second spot in the general election. In the general election, Roll Call rates this race as a Tossup.
