Utah: Orrin Hatch Outraised, Outspent Dan Liljenquist Pre-Primary
Sen. Orrin Hatch continued to outraise his Republican primary challenger in the pre-primary fundraising period.
Hatch, who faces former state Sen. Dan Liljenquist in Tuesday’s contest, raised $569,000 from April 2 to June 6, according to records filed last week. Liljenquist brought in $309,000, including a $100,000 personal loan.
The discrepancy in spending was much larger. Hatch spent more than $1.9 million during the two-month period, including about $900,000 on media buys. Liljenquist, who needs to overcome a heavy name identification disadvantage, spent $388,000, including $152,000 on radio and television advertising. Full story

New York: Alan Grayson Pitches for Charlie Rangel
Former Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.), running in a Democratic-leaning district in a bid to return to Congress, today emailed supporters soliciting donations for vulnerable Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.).
In the June 26 Democratic primary, the 82-year-old Rangel faces the most difficult election of his career since he unseated longtime Rep. Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. (D-N.Y.) in 1970.
Grayson recounted Rangel’s biography, from his tough childhood in poverty to his heroic service and wartime injury during the Korean War.
“Charlie Rangel, that child of the ghetto, that fatherless dropout, that juvenile delinquent, that bedridden, wounded, crippled young man, is now the 20th longest-serving Member of Congress in history,” Grayson wrote. “Anybody can do anything.”
New York: Michael Grimm Racks Up Huge Legal Bills
Rep. Michael Grimm (R), who the FBI is reportedly looking into investigating, racked up more than $321,000 in legal fees from April 1 to June 6, according to a Federal Election Commission report filed late Thursday.
During that period, Grimm’s campaign raised $144,000 and disbursed $71,000 but accrued $336,000 worth of debt, including the $321,000 to Patton Boggs LLP, a high-powered Washington, D.C., firm.
Grimm’s campaign did not respond to telephone and email requests for comment Friday morning. At the end of June 6, Grimm had a very comfortable $1.2 million in cash on hand.
New York: Charlie Rangel Spending More Money Than He’s Raising
New York Rep. Charlie Rangel (D), in the toughest primary of his career since he came to Congress in 1970, pulled in more than $29,000 from fellow Members from April 1 to June 6, according to newly filed fundraising reports.
But all the help from his colleagues wasn’t enough to keep the campaign’s burn rate below 100 percent. The Rangel campaign spent $344,000 during the pre-primary period but raised $297,000 during that two-month period. That left the 82-year-old Congressman with just $179,000 in cash on hand as of June 6 — not a huge sum for the last days of a competitive election. The primary is June 26. Full story

Florida: James Clyburn, Corrine Brown to Fundraise for Al Lawson
Assistant Minority Leader James Clyburn (S.C.) and Rep. Corrine Brown (Fla.) will appear at a fundraiser for Congressional candidate Al Lawson today. Brown’s office confirmed to Roll Call that the fundraiser is happening at noon at the National Democratic Club.
Lawson is running for the Democratic nomination in the Florida’s Tallahassee-anchored 2nd district against state Rep. Leonard Bembry, who has the endorsement of the fiscally conservative Democratic Blue Dog PAC.
Bembry’s campaign was listed as an “emerging race” by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Lawson, who entered the race after the DCCC’s announcement, is not on that list.
Lawson, like Clyburn and Brown, is African-American. Bembry is white. Full story

Sen. Marco Rubio stumped for state Treasurer Richard Mourdock on Monday evening in Indiana, marking the sought-after Florida Republican’s second road trip to campaign for a Senate candidate this cycle.
The GOP duo stopped by Shapiro’s Deli in Carmel on Rubio’s Indiana swing, which also included some fundraising.
Mourdock will face Rep. Joe Donnelly, the Democratic nominee, in November. The Treasurer defeated six-term Sen. Dick Lugar in an early May GOP primary.
The Indiana race is competitive, but Republicans have the advantage given the state’s GOP-leaning political composition. Accordingly, Roll Call rates this race Leans Republican.
Earlier this year, Rubio traveled to Ohio to campaign with state Treasurer Josh Mandel, the GOP’s nominee against Sen. Sherrod Brown (D).
According to an aide, Rubio has bundled at least $30,000 for Mandel and about $20,000 for Mourdock. Those figures do not include any money Rubio raised for the candidates during his trips to their respective states.

Donovan has denied any awareness of the activity and promised to press on with his campaign. Full story

Assistant Minority Leader James Clyburn (S.C.) and Democratic Caucus Chairman John Larson (Conn.) have sent checks to Pascrell, although one of the donations was much more recent than the other.
Clyburn donated a total of $7,000 through his PAC and campaign committee Friday, according to Pascrell’s latest 48-hour fundraising report. Larson’s campaign committee donated $2,000 Dec. 31, just days after it became clear that a Member-vs.-Member race was shaping up between the two men. Full story
