Not everyone agreed with us when we declared a spot from former Massachusetts Senate Minority Leader Richard Tisei (R) as one of the best of the cycle. It was a static camera shot of the beach with almost no political messaging beyond his campaign logo. It reminded us of the annual Corona palm tree Christmas ads.

Businessman Steve Daines easily won the Republican nomination Tuesday night and is now the favorite to win Montana’s House seat in November.
In the race to replace Rep. Denny Rehberg (R), who is running for Senate, Daines will face state Senate Minority Whip Kim Gillan, who won a crowded Democratic nomination fight. Full story

IN-05: On the morning of Rep. Dan Burton’s (R-Ind.) retirement announcement, former U.S. attorney Susan Brooks reported raising $107,500 and had $325,000 in the bank. Her chief competition for the GOP nod, former Rep. David McIntosh, has not filed his report yet. But Brooks brought in much more than the other Republicans who lined up to challenge Burton. She also has a head start on state Sen. Mike Delph, a former Burton aide, if he jumps into the race before the Feb. 10 filing deadline. (via @shiratoeplitz) Full story
