Rep. Chaka Fattah, the Philadelphia Democrat indicted on more than two-dozen counts of corruption, hired a campaign manager over the weekend and vowed to run for re-election — denying rumors that the legal battle ahead of him would force him to step aside.

Fattah will bring on Joe Certaine — a one-time aide to former Gov. Ed Rendell — to manage his campaign. Fattah also told CQ Roll Call on Monday he plans to roll out endorsements later this week, a move to show strength ahead of what’s looking like a tough primary battle for his seat.

Dwight Evans, a longtime Philadelphia politician with considerable clout among the Pennsylvania Democratic establishment, announced he’ll challenge Fattah in a primary in this safe Democratic seat. With Evans’ entrance into the contest, Democratic strategists say Fattah’s future in Congress looks a little less certain.

Updated 2:17 p.m. | Despite Philadelphia Rep. Chaka Fattah’s indictment on 29 counts of corruption Wednesday, multiple Pennsylvania Democratic consultants say not to expect a flurry of candidates to announce primary challenges to the long-serving Democrat anytime soon.

While Fattah gave up his position on the Appropriations Committee in the wake of the indictment, he professed his innocence and said he plans to run for re-election in seat he’s held since 1994.

Pennsylvania: GOP Leaders Threaten to Move Primary Date

Chaos over the state legislative redistricting maps might delay Pennsylvania’s April 24 primary — a move that would effect Congressional and presidential races, too.

A later primary would give the Keystone State less prominence on the presidential nominating calendar, as well as influence several House contests, including the high-profile primary between Democratic Reps. Jason Altmire and Mark Critz in the redrawn 12th district.

Earlier this month, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ordered a state redistricting commission to redraw its controversial proposal for the legislative districts. But there’s growing concern the state Legislative Reapportionment Commission will not have enough time to pass new maps.
