Club for Growth Makes Big Ad Buy to Boost Amash

The Club for Growth has sponsored a major television and radio ad buy to boost Rep. Justin Amash, R-Mich., who faces a primary challenge in the 3rd District.

In the television ad, released on Wednesday, the club hits Amash’s primary rival, former East Grand Rapids School Trustee Brian Ellis, for various votes he took in that role. The conservative group also seeks to tie Ellis to former Gov. Jennifer Granholm, a Democrat, in the spot.

The dual buy is a six-figure radio, broadcast and cable television ad buy, according to club spokesman Barney Keller.

The Michigan Strategic Fund’s website describes the group as having “broad authority to promote economic development and create jobs” in the state.

The race is rated Safe Republican by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call. The Michigan primary is Aug. 5.

Updated 10:49 | Keller noted in a follow-up email that the club’s super PAC, Club for Growth Action, made the ad buy.

  • John

Amash is the only Republican I like. I hope he can beat that idiot challenging him.

  • Gregory Williams

The fact that Amash needs this kind of help in his own district says a lot about him …. and none of it is good.

The voters in his district KNOW he is intentionally harming them and their interests with his brand of extremist cult conservatism and attitudes in his state are turning against hard line conservatives who work as NATIONAL conservatives and not as local issue republicans doing what is best for ALL the people in that state regardless of their voter registration.

This race having a safe for republican rating does not mean it is safe for him in particular.

The elites are against him and that is why he needed additional funds.

      • Barry Mole

Amash is against Amnesty and is not support the Saudi Al Qeada terrorists killing Christians in Syria. McCain, Flake, Graham and Mike Rogers plus all the Dems were supporting the Saudis Al Qeada. Amash is NOT a RINO. He is a good guy.
