Democrat Suspends Campaign Against Alex Sink in Florida District

Attorney Jessica Ehrlich is suspending her campaign for the highly competitive 13th District in Florida, according to a news release from the state Democratic Party.

Ehrlich was under pressure to step aside in the special-election primary to replace the late Rep. C.W. Bill Young, R-Fla. Former Democratic gubernatorial nominee Alex Sink entered the race last week, and national Democratic power brokers quickly threw their support her way.

“This morning I am officially announcing that I am suspending my campaign for Congress,” Ehrlich said in a statement. “I want to thank my amazing staff, donors, and volunteers for everything they have done for our campaign.”

The news release also included a glowing statement from Florida Democratic Party Chairwoman Allison Tant.

“She has run an incredible campaign that offered voters a positive vision for Florida’s 13th Congressional district,” Tant said. “Jessica is a dedicated fighter for Florida’s working families and I look forward to working along side her going forward.”

This race is rated a Tossup by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call and the special election is scheduled for March 11. The primary will be Jan. 14.

Alex has paid her dues! Every day I still am amazed Floridians chose Rick Scott instead of Alex Sink! And I rue that day…big Florida money bags, cousins of tea bags, did the midnight surprise…diddling with the votes! This state is a disaster!!
