Ashland City Council member Kelly Westlund, a Democrat, will announce Tuesday her bid to challenge to Rep. Sean P. Duffy, R-Wis., in the 7th District.

Westlund will launch her campaign with a series of meetings with labor groups, as well as “small business owners, Social Security recipients and other voters,”  throughout the northwestern Wisconsin district, according to her campaign.“Sean Duffy consistently says one thing to his constituents in Wisconsin and then votes against them in Washington, D.C.,” Westlund said in a release. “During my ‘Progress For The People’ announcement tour, I will talk about economic opportunity, jobs, Social Security and other issues of importance to middle-class and working people, and I’ll hold Sean Duffy accountable for his actions in Congress.”

Until recently, the 7th District included a robust population of voters who supported organized labor and often supported Democrats. But after the decennial redistricting process in 2010, the district slightly favored Republicans.

GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney won the 7th District in 2012 by a 3-point margin, while Duffy won re-election against his Democratic opponent by a 12-point margin.

Wisconsin’s 7th District is rated a Safe Republican contest by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.

It’s not totally unimaginable. This was Obey’s district for like 1000 years.

I don’t think she has a grasp on federal politics, actually…I know she doesn’t. Her motivations include Duffy not voting for a debt ceiling increase, Ashland not getting Duffy support for federal money to pay for their fire station and more self-reliant local energy production.

Sean Duffy – the guy who says that, on his Congressional salary of $174,000 (plus many perks), he is “struggling” to get by.

About what to expect from a make-believe lumberjack out of touch with reality of people’s lives.

But he’ll keep voting a straight tea party line in Congress – supporting privatizing Medicare, shutting down the government, and working for more tax cuts for the wealthy paid for by cutting back health care, food stamps and infrastructure spending.

She does not have a pimp with a billion dollars like duffy does. Duffy is famous in Ashland county when he was district attorney for using the judges mommy as juror to help his conviction rates. Duffy can not win in his home town so they change his district to be rigged to guarantee his win

yet he things food stamp people are moochers. when he worked for mtv he stole tens of thousands of dollars from walmart making movies. he later admitted to his crime.
