Former Washington Redskins wide receiver Jimmy Farris told a local news source on Tuesday that he is eyeing a run for the Idaho Legislature instead of another bid against GOP Rep. Raúl R. Labrador.
Last cycle, Farris, a Democrat, ran against Labrador and lost by a more than 30-point margin in the 1st District. He told the Idaho Statesman that an open seat in the state legislature would be a better opportunity than a second long-shot campaign against Labrador in 2014.
“Quite frankly, the numbers are just bad in the district for a Democrat,” Farris told the Statesman. “I don’t know at this point if I would take the plunge again.”
An Idaho native, Farris retired from the NFL in 2009 after a career playing for the San Francisco 49ers, the New England Patriots, the Atlanta Falcons, the Jacksonville Jaguars and two nonconsecutive stints with the Redskins.
Idaho’s 1st District seat is rated Safe Republican by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.
