It pays to have the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee on your side — at least for fundraising.

Redlands Mayor Pete Aguilar — the DCCC’s chosen candidate for the targeted 31st District in California — brought in the most cash in his crowded primary, with $300,000 raised in the second quarter of this year.

Aguilar’s Democratic opponents did not fare so well. Former Rep. Joe Baca, who touted support from many of his former House colleagues, raised just $38,000 in the second quarter. It’s a small haul for any House candidate, but especially for a former member.

The race is of particular importance to House Democrats, who view the district as a top target in 2014. Last cycle, several Democrats, including Aguilar, split the party’s vote in California’s new “top two” primary, allowing GOP Rep. Gary G. Miller and another Republican to proceed to the general.

Attorney Eloise Gomez Reyes, who is poised to receive the support of EMILY’s List, announced last she raised $200,000 in the second quarter. But her fundraising report – filed just before the midnight deadline – shows that she loaned her campaign $100,000 of that haul.

The fourth candidate in the race, local school board official Danny Tillman, raised just $7,000 in the second quarter.

Miller raised $238,000 in the second quarter, $60,000 less than Aguilar.

The 31st District is rated Lean Democrat by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.
