Illinois: Tammy Duckworth Fundraises for Nominee in 12th
Posted at 11 p.m. on July 18, 2012
Just how confident is Iraq War veteran Tammy Duckworth (D) that she will defeat Rep. Joe Walsh (R)? She’s fundraising — for another candidate.
Duckworth penned a campaign plea for retired Maj. Gen. William Enyart, the new Democratic nominee in the 12th district. Local Democrats selected Enyart after their original nominee dropped out of the race in May for health reasons.
In an email from VoteVets.org, Duckworth thanked her supporters and donors before making the pitch for her “personal friend.”
“As a member of the Illinois Guard myself, I know and respect this man greatly, and I can tell you that if elected to Congress, he will be [an] incredible advocate for the progressive military values that VoteVets.org represents,” she wrote.
Duckworth is favored to win her bid for the Democratic 8th district in northwest Chicago.
What’s more, her fundraising has flourished over Walsh’s controversial comments — including his recent criticism of her for speaking too much about her military service.
Comparatively, Enyart has a tougher task ahead. He seeks the competitive seat being vacated by retiring Rep. Jerry Costello (D). Enyart faces businessman Jason Plummer, the Republican nominee.
