The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee’s independent expenditure arm has reserved $5.5 million in airtime for Sen. Kay Hagan, D-N.C., according to a source with knowledge of the reservation.

Hagan’s re-election bid is one of the most competitive and expensive races in the country. She faces North Carolina House Speaker Thom Tillis.

The DSCC has reserved airtime in at least four other states with competitive Senate races: Alaska, Colorado, New Hampshire and Arkansas.  This marks the DSCC’s first airtime reservation in the Tar Heel State.

In North Carolina, the DSCC reserved airtime starting Sept. 16 and running through Election Day. The amount of money spent will increase each week, from $376,000 the week of Sept. 16, to $1.2 million in the final week before the election.

These reservations can change until shortly before the advertisement’s run date.

The DSCC is spending the most funds in the more expensive Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham media markets. Those buys begin Septe. 16. Buys in the Greensboro media market do not begin until Sept. 30, and the DSCC has reserved fewer points in advertisement there.

Outside groups have already begun spending heavily in the highly contested race. Senate Majority PAC, American Crossroads and Americans for Prosperity have spent millions on the race.

The race is rated Tossup by the Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.

SENATOR JOHN BOEHNER IS A SAD EXCUSE FOR A POLITICIAN AND A HUMAN BEING IF EVER THERE WAS. HE HAS SINGLE HANDEDLY DESTROYED THE LIVES OF MILLIONS OF UNEMPLOYED FAMILIES WITHOUT UNEMPLOYMENT EXTENSON BENEFITS SINCE LATE LAST DECEMBER. HE HAS USED HIS POWER IN OFFICE TO DELAY AND POSTPONE THE EXTENSION VOTE IN THE SENATE UNTIL IT BECAME TOO LATE TO PASS IT IN TIME. THIS WAS AN INTENTIONAL MOVE ON HIS PART AND OF THOSE REPUBLICANS THAT FOLLOW HIS EXAMPLE. SINCE LAST DECEMBER, MILLIONS HAVE FACED EVICTIONS, HOME FORECLOSURES, BANKRUPTCY, AND HOMELESSNESS, WITH EVERY PASSING MONTH THAT WENT BY WITHOUT THE BILL. EVEN THOUGH A FOREIGN AID BILL WAS PASSED DURING THIS TIME, FOR THE UKRAINE, WORTH BILLIONS OF TAX PAYER’S DOLLARS, NO HELP WAS GIVEN TO THESE UNFORTUNATE AMERICANS WITHOUT BENEFITS. THE REPUBLICANS HAVE CLEARLY SHOWN FOR WHOM THEY WORK FOR, AND FOR WHOM THEY SERVE… AND IT’S NOT YOU OR ME. THE REPUBLICANS WORK FOR SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS AND CORPORATE AMERICA ONLY. MANY FAMILIES ARE STILL STRUGGLING AND FAILING FINANCIALLY DUE TO THE EXTENSION BILL NOT BEING PASSED. THIS IS TRULY A CRIME AGAINST THE POOR AND UNEMPLOYED IN OUR COUNTRY, AND I HOPE THAT EVERYONE AFFECTED WILL VOTE THEM ALL OUT OF OFFICE IN THE COMING ELECTIONS.

Stop the benefits and they will find a job, it worked in NC.

    • sam

When did you complain about Clinton,Obama and their types doing the same when they caused the recession?

    • Sherlocktoo

Why not show the same anger at Owebama for the misery of no jobs? I bet you voted to re-elect him. Democrats continue to punish and push the middle class into poverty. Just look at the steady growth of welfare since Owebama, Reid and Peeeeelosi took over in D.C., as we now have 18 million new enrollees. And Owebama gave 50 billion to the globull warming believers fund by executive order. Now why doesn’t Owebama use that executive order to extend UE benefits, as he overrides congress on anything else he really wants?

John Boehner is not a senator

    • rangerider

It would seem that you are just another “useful idiot” troll, with not much to shout about, other than how much you lie through omission or commission :-)

  • A Anon

they should mention that she signed a bill to weaken the middle class by banning overtime to white collared employees.. anyone that uses a computer for the majority of their day is not suppose to get overtime she says… though At&t and Verizion did lobby her to make this change.

She bows to the corporations and not the middle class.

Meanwhile, since Rove and the establishment bought the nomination for progressive Tillis, many conservatives seem to be looking for other options, such as: http://dailyhaymaker.com/?p=8069

    • ekaneti

oh please. Conservatives will vote Tillis. Your guy got 20% and had a $500k civil judgement against him.

  • YONATAN C

THE REPUBLICANS AND DEMOCRATS HAVE FAILED THE MORE THAN 2.6 MILLION UNEMPLOYED FAMILIES WITHOUT BENEFITS SINCE LAST DECEMBER. THESE MILLIONS OF FAMILIES HAVE FACED EVICTIONS, HOME FORECLOSURES, PERSONAL BANKRUPTCY, AND HOMELESSNESS, WHILE THE TWO POLITICAL PARTIES HELD THE EXTENSION BILL HOSTAGE IN THE SENATE. THEY CHOSE TO MAKE THE PEOPLE SUFFER RATHER THAN TO COOPERATE FOR THE BETTERMENT OF THE PEOPLE. THESE POLITICIANS NEED TO BE VOTED OUT OF OFFICE IN THE NEXT ELECTION. THIS SHOULF NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN. THESE POLITICIANS ARE A DISGRACE,

    • Sherlocktoo

Still, most of the people would rather have a job! You know, the jobs that Owebama was focused like a laser on in his first term. And yet, he was elected for a second term, as the bls forged unemployment number down as part of the re-elect campaign.

    $5.5M down the tubes.

  • Whit_Chambers

lol… I hope the Democrats reserve $10m for her…. it is a wasted effort.

    Hagan is toast

  • ekaneti

This is ultimately why Nunn and Lungren wont win. The Dems will spend to protect their incumbents not to win GOP seats.

Since plunder stalls progress, it leads to even more demands to redistribute even more wealth, thus accelerating the downward spiral.
