The Many Reasons Mark Kirk Won’t Stump for Oberweis

The Many Reasons Mark Kirk Wont Stump for Oberweis

Sen. Mark S. Kirk’s decision not to campaign this year against his in-state Democratic colleague should come as no surprise.

While Kirk has said he will support the Republican ticket in November and has committed to actively assisting the party’s gubernatorial nominee Bruce Rauner, the Illinois Republican told the Chicago Sun-Times’ Lynn Sweet that he won’t be stumping for Republican Senate nominee Jim Oberweis.

Kirk said he wants to protect his working relationship with Democratic Sen. Richard J. Durbin by “not launching into a partisan jihad.” But there are other equally compelling reasons not to hit the campaign trail against Durbin.

The Senate majority whip is already overwhelmingly favored to defeat Oberweis, a state senator, dairy magnate and perennial candidate who’s lost several congressional elections already, and no amount of Kirk appearances are likely to change that. Kirk will be up for re-election in two years in this solidly Democratic state, where his ability to work with both parties is a crucial asset to his success. And it’s an added bonus if Durbin feels less inclined to stump against Kirk in 2016.

As Kirk said in a wide-ranging January interview with CQ Roll Call, he is already preparing for what should be a competitive race in 2016. He won President Barack Obama’s former seat in 2010 with 48 percent of the vote, and he will likely enter the next election cycle as a top Democratic target.

There doesn’t need to be a list. Oberweis is a staunch Santorum style social conservative and embracing his views will be the kiss of death for Kirk.

    • imwithstuoopid

Just where the heck did all the centrists go. There’s only so much money to go around.

If Stupidity got us into this mess, then why can’t it get us out?

      Will Rogers

      • teapartyidiots

        Kirk is a centrist.

    • BearNJ

Santorum won 11 states in the GOP Presidential primary with no money. How many do you think Mark Kirk would win?. Ronald Reagan won two MASSIVE landslides as a conservative. Kirk thinks this is smart politics? The base will remember this sell out.

The Rino consultant class keeps shoveling their losing candidates and BS and refuse to stand for anything. Look how they attacked Cruz during the shutdown. It was Cruz’s stand that tied Obamacare around the President neck and sunk his and the Democrats polls numbers because the low information voters knew who to blame.

Stop listening to Pugsley Karl Rove. He was a 97% loser in the last election cycle. His claim to fame was barely getting Bush elected twice against two medicore Democrats. It was Rove that cost us the House and Senate and created this explosion of Government. Rove and the GOP consultant class are losers. They’re the ones that need to be ignored.

From above. “Santorum won 11 states in the GOP Presidential primary with no money. How many do you think Mark Kirk would win?”
How many U.S. Senate states can Kirk win? Tell us how that’s done.

        • BearNJ

Seriously are you that stupid? Wait don’t answer that one. Obviously I was referring to Kirk and the Rinos you love on how they would project nationally. We’ve already seen their chronic failures.

      • http://marketsharescorp.com/ Nick10

“Santorum won 11 states….. How many do you think Mark Kirk would win?” BAFFLING

        • BearNJ

Seriously how stupid are you? It was a response to a post that a conservative candidate like Santorum can’t win. I responded that he won 11 states in the primary last time with no money. Reagan once won 49 of 50 states. This crap that conservatives can’t win is pushed by the consultant clowns in DC and Karl Rove.

          • teapartyidiots

I didn’t say he can’t win in other states, I said he can’t win in Illinois. Social conservatism does not play well in Illinois.

      • teapartyidiots

The GOP primary is not the general election in a VERY blue state.

        • BearNJ

Of course not. The point is that Kirk distanced himself from a conservative. You dismissed Oberweis as a Santorum clone one who couldn’t win. Yet Santorum won 11 states with no money.

Guys like Kirk who have no principles and stand for nothing are useless. Illinois is a blue liberal state that right now is an economic basket case. It’s more the reason for conseravtive candidates to show the way out. Being a liberal Republican like Kirk just means he wants to help manage the decline.

    • http://marketsharescorp.com/ Nick10

      Huh! Baffling.

  • kraml1

Well this is one Republican that Mr Kirk can forget in the 2016 election. If he prefers to support Democratic candidates then he can get the nomination of the Democratic Party as far as I am concerned. This State is the laughing stock of the Country due to the Democratic leadership from people like Durbin, Quinn and Madigan. I don’t necessarily agree with all of Mr. Oberweis’ positions, but he won the vote of the Party and he is the candidate and all Republicans should support him. I don’t agree with all of Mr. Kirk’s positions either, but up until now I would have voted for him anyway, but now he can convince his Democratic friends to vote for him. Does he think Senator Durbin will do the same thing in 2016?

    • imwithstuoopid

How sad, all that’s left here is the lesser of two weevils (sic)……..

I don’t make jokes. I just watch the government and report the facts.

      Will Rogers

    • http://marketsharescorp.com/ Nick10

Oberweis lost GOP primary elections in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008. He won this one in March. No need for Senator Durbin in 2016. No need for Kirk’s help.

      • Guest

You’re smoking something I want some of if you think Durbin has any chance of losing.

        • http://marketsharescorp.com/ Nick10

Are you smoking ice cream instead?

      • teapartyidiots

Kirk knows if he aligns with Oberweis he loses the Chicago burbs in ’16 (they’re the reason he won, and Brady lost).

        • http://marketsharescorp.com/ Nick10

No need for Kirk to align with Oberweis. Overweis lost all elections in the last decade as above. This year Oberweis ran against a previously unknown and evaded Doug Truax who Oberweis ignored. Thie primary election: Oberweis 56% and Truax 44% who most voters never heard of. The general election odds are clearly Durbin.

  • BarryBarry

Sounds like RINO quality material right there.

News for ya, Jack Wad, the Dems have no interest in working with you.

    • http://marketsharescorp.com/ Nick10

“And it’s an added bonus if Durbin feels less inclined to stump against Kirk in 2016.”

    • http://marketsharescorp.com/ Nick10

Correct. Jack Wad is of no interest.

  • imwithstuoopid

Of all the people, he choses the one that should be gone. See people, no difference between the parties here, still 99,99% democrat and the rest RINOs.. And I don’t like either parties. Just plain fed up to here.

  • http://marketsharescorp.com/ Nick10

Oberweis lost GOP primary elections in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008. He took a break for a couple of years but finally won one. Oberweis ice cream money paid again for another try. His sole opponent was Doug Truax who could not raise the money. Truax wanted debates but Oberweis left for Florida. You guys would call it genius. I know.

    • teapartyidiots

Truax was able to string a sentence together, at least.

      • http://marketsharescorp.com/ Nick10

        You can’t.

  • spiritubrianus

Oberweis is an extreme right wing, tea party candidate. He has no chance in this election. Being a TP candidate is the kiss of death when running statewide in Illinois. Durbin will win in a walk no doubt about it. So why should Kirk endanger his own reelection. Turnabout will be fair play in 2016 so my guess is that Kirk and Durbin have an ‘understanding’.

    • BearNJ

Their is nothing extremist about the Tea Party agenda of wanting the Constitution respected, the Bill of Rights to be protected and are for
      a responsible limited government.

Only a Paul Krugman drone thinks we can deficit spend at these levels with no consequences for the future. The Tea Party has been attacked by the media and inside the Beltway from both parties elitists that are destroying this nations financial vitality.

Kirk should be ignored and not supported. He is a fool.
