Businessman John Delaney (D), who is running to unseat Rep. Roscoe Bartlett (R) in the Maryland 6th district race, released an internal poll today that confirmed what most political observers have already noted: The incumbent is in serious electoral trouble.
The poll shows that Delaney is up over Bartlett 48 to 39 points in the most closely watched federal race in the state.
Bartlett has acknowledged he has work to do to introduce himself to his new voters in Montgomery County. The heavily Democratic area was drawn into his district with the specific intent to give Democrats a pickup in Maryland.
In previous cycles, Bartlett has enjoyed a safe Republican district. Roll Call now rates the 6th as Leans Democratic.
Fred Yang of the Garin-Hart-Yang Research Group conducted the poll from April 9 to 11. The margin of error was 5 points.
