Minnesota: State GOP Headaches Mount With Eviction Case

The Minnesota Republican Party will face an eviction hearing next week over unpaid rent, according to the Associated Press.

“The MNGOP is not being ‘kicked out’ of its offices,” state GOP Chairman Pat Shortridge said in a statement. “While we have successfully negotiated with our creditors in most cases, our landlord took the unfortunate step, which they are certainly within their rights to do, of bringing the matter to court.”

He added: “We believe we’re on track to settle this matter without further legal action, and we’ll know for sure in the coming days.”

The state GOP has faced a litany of financial and leadership issues in recent months.

Adding to the party’s nuisances, Republicans in the state’s 1st district were deadlocked over the weekend on endorsing a nominee to face off against Rep. Tim Walz (D) in the fall.

Neither former state Rep. Allen Quist nor state Sen. Mike Parry were able to meet the 60 percent threshold to pick up the nod. Republicans agreed to table the issue until May 10, according to the New Ulm Journal.
