Nevada: Shelley Berkley Launches First TV Ad

Nevada Rep. Shelley Berkley began her on-air introduction to Washoe County voters today with her first TV ad of the Senate campaign.

In the 60-second ad, the Democrat highlights a piece of legislation she sponsored that ensures all Veterans Affairs medical centers are outfitted with substance abuse treatment services. The ad features the father of Iraq War veteran Justin Bailey, whose death following a diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder led to the passage of the bill.

“Shelley Berkley listened to our story and she sponsored a bill to improve the mental health in all veterans’ facilities across the country,” Tony Bailey says in the ad.

As the seven-term Congresswoman from Las Vegas, this ad is part of Berkley’s efforts to introduce herself to voters statewide. According to a GOP source tracking the buy, the Berkley campaign purchased about $45,000 in Reno through Monday.

Berkley is challenging Republican Sen. Dean Heller, who lives in Carson City and won three statewide elections as secretary of state before being elected to the House in 2006. He was appointed to this seat one year ago after the resignation of Republican John Ensign.

Roll Call rates this race as a Tossup.
