After losing by one of the smallest margins in the country last year, former state Sen. David Rouzer officially announced Tuesday that he will seek a rematch against Rep. Mike McIntyre, D-N.C.

Rouzer, who previously said he intended to run again, is hoping to take out one of the most vulnerable House Democrats of the cycle. McIntyre is one of nine Democrats who represent a district President Barack Obama lost in 2012.

The general consultants leading Rouzer’s second effort will be Brock McCleary, a former deputy political director of the National Republican Congressional Committee, and Bob Rosser, a veteran strategist in the state.

McIntyre survived re-election last cycle, even though local Republicans redrew the 7th District to be more favorable to the GOP. The race went to a recount before Rouzer conceded three weeks after Election Day.
