NRSC Hires Rob Collins as Executive Director

Rob Collins will serve as the National Republican Senatorial Committee’s executive director for the 2014 cycle under incoming Chairman Jerry Moran of Kansas.

A former top aide for House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., Collins currently works at Purple Strategies. He served as president of the American Action Network during during the 2010 cycle.

Collins was one of three finalists for the gig. His appointment marks the final executive director hire announced by a congressional campaign committee for the coming cycle.

The NRSC has unique challenges this cycle, even compared to its counterparts. Tumultuous primaries and lackluster nominees cost the party a handful of seats over the past two cycles.

But the 2014 cycle presents incredible opportunities for Senate Republicans to make gains. Democrats must defend 20 seats, many of which are in conservative states such as Alaska, Louisiana and Montana. Republicans must defend 13 seats.

Additionally, there will be two special elections to serve out terms for Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., who resigned, and the late Sen. Daniel K. Inouye, D-Hawaii., who died Monday.

Politico first reported the news, which a Moran aide confirmed to CQ Roll Call.
