Portman Can Run for Re-Election and VP in 2016, Per Election Officials

If the 2016 GOP nominee picks Sen. Rob Portman as a running mate, the Buckeye State senator will not have to chose between his Senate seat and a slot on the GOP national ticket.

This week’s Ohio edition of Roll Call’s Farm Team series looked at the future of Portman’s seat, and according to the Ohio secretary of state’s office, a Buckeye State candidate may appear on the ballot twice in federal races.

Portman won his first term in 2010, which produced a handful of Senate GOP stars who are often mentioned as potential candidates for the national ticket.

But not every state allows for a senator to run for re-election and for an executive branch office. See how Republican Sens. Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire, Rand Paul of Kentucky and Marco Rubio of Florida stack up here.
