Raul Grijalva Endorses Ruben Gallego in Arizona Open-Seat Race
Posted at 3:54 p.m. on March 19
Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva, D-Ariz., endorsed state Rep. Ruben Gallego on Wednesday for the open-seat race in Arizona’s 7th District.
In the race to replace retiring Democratic Rep. Ed Pastor, Gallego is running in what is shaping up to be a crowded primary field for the solidly Democratic, Phoenix-based district.
“I worked with Ed Pastor for many years,” Grijalva said in a statement. “He was the best partner I could have asked for in Phoenix, and I couldn’t think of a better candidate to replace him than Ruben Gallego.”
Potential or confirmed candidates in the Aug. 26 Democratic primary include state Sen. Steve Gallardo, state Rep. Catherine Miranda, Phoenix City Councilman Daniel Valenzuela and Maricopa County Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox. The filing deadline is May 28.
The race is rated Safe Democrat by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.
