Former Rep. Bobby Schilling, R-Ill., is eyeing a rematch with freshman Democratic Rep. Cheri Bustos in Illinois’ 17th District, according to a local report.

Schilling, who lost to Bustos in 2012 by 6 points, told the Quad City Times that his race last cycle was “an impossible task” with President Barack Obama on the top of the ticket.

But in a midterm election year, where turnout favors the party not in the White House, Schilling said he is “leaning toward” a rematch.

Thus far, no Republican has announced a bid in the 17th District, which Obama carried with 57 percent in 2012.

Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call rates this race as Democrat Favored.

Eric Reyes is either a Democrat plant or an idiot. If he even manages to get on the ballot, Bobby will beat him at least 2 to 1.

I’d vote for Reyes. Tired of these Manzullo types coming in like they own a seat.

Last I checked Bobby served 1 term to Manzullo’s 10, so I’m not really sure how he’s a “Manzullo type”. In fact, Bobby has consistently spoken against career politicians and signed a contract with the district limiting himself to 8 years.

And he isn’t acting like he owns the seat. He’s putting himself out there and will have to win a primary if challenged like anyone else. But I don’t consider a sore-loser democrat trying desperately to accrue political fame as a “challenge”, other than perhaps to the reputation of actual Republicans.
