Republican Hits Kirkpatrick on Obama’s ‘You Can Keep Your Health Care Plan’ Promise

Arizona House Speaker Andy Tobin went up this week with a new radio spot seeking to tie Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, D-Ariz., to President Barack Obama’s promise that Americans could keep their health plans under his 2010 health care law.

It is one of the first times this cycle that a candidate has used this line of attack against a House Democrat in a campaign advertisements. The National Republican Congressional Committee previously attacked Kirkpatrick on the same issue in a Facebook ad buy.

Tobin’s spot includes audio of Obama’s now famous line, “If you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan.” That line was widely discredited after some customers received cancellation notices from health insurance companies. Obama apologized for the comments to NBC News last month.

It is a four-figure, district-wide ad buy, according to the Tobin campaign. Tobin emailed a link to the ad to supporters and wrote, “Fed up? Help us keep our ad up on the radio.”

The spot is also noteworthy because Tobin is taking on Kirkpatrick one-on-one. He faces a potentially competitive primary that includes state Rep. Adam Kwasman and rancher Gary Kiehne.

The race is rated Tilts Democratic by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.

Come on RC!! Why write, After ‘some customers” received cancellation notices and not tell the truth that THOUSANDS received cancellation notices. And Obama apologized for “statements”, how about Obama apologized for LYING to the American people repeatedly? Get with it RC!!!!

Buckeye, let’s be truthful about what is going on with the health insurance market.

Now that the October health insurance re-enrollment period is over and we can see the whole process, we see that all those cancellations and changes are very consistent with the normal cancellations, changes and revisions that occur every year in health insurance.

I understand that the GOP partisans will continue hewing the party line, but the facts are that the market is working in health insurance and that Obamacare has not brought on a government take over of the industry.

I ask only that fair minded people examine the facts and make up their own minds without being influenced by the distortions widely bruited about in the press.

The technical glitches on the web-site will be cleared up and Americans will be able to enroll for quality, affordable health care.

After the dust has settled we shall that Obamacare works and is bringing America forward to goal of universal health care insurance in a market driven, multi-payor system.

This is a win-win situation as people will have health insurance coverage and our free enterprise system will be strengthened, too.

You sir, are a fool! I worked in the life and health insurance business for more years than I care to remember, both in the company and agency levels, and believe me, NEVER were 5 million+ policies cancelled in one year. Face facts Rob, most of these policy holders were told they were losing their insurance policies because of the requirements of the ACA. So quit drinking the Kool Aid and stop spewing the liberal democratic progressive lines as they are sickening! How do i know you are spewing the demo talking points? Because I have heard/read some of the SAME words and sentencing from Obama’s talking heads either on interviews or news programs or in liberal rags (such as the NY Times which I get delivered to my door step)..

          Thank you for comment, Rob.

Aren’t you the least bit ashamed that for all your work in health and life insurance you never came up with a plan for universal insurance?

Don’t you believe that citizens should be protected from the financial perils of long term or catastrophic diseases or injuries?

Or is your world only big enough for those with copious financial assets?

I may be a fool as you say Rob, but what are you?

Who, but people with attitudes like yours, put the poison in the kool aid, Rob?

Hussein Obama is a menace to mankind.

  • Benjamin Dover

Private property is one of the best ways to motivate people towards voluntarily making the most of their own unique talents, thus maximizing their overall contribution to civilization.

    • Rob_Chapman

If you actually believe what you wrote, Mr. Dover, about private property you should retract your second statement.

Obamacare is a multi-payor, market driven, private health insurance system supporting a private, market driven medical care model.

As medical training is private intellectual property and medical equipment is still private property in this country, enhancing the market orientation of medical care is a boon to people holding our views on private property, Mr. Dover.

Outside the medical field, Obamacare offers the best and clearest path to universal health care insurance coverage, protecting us from bankruptcy stemming from uninsured medical costs.

The GOP alternative to Obamacare is to offer tax deductions for health insurance, essentially funding the American health insurance industry through the US Treasury. The ramifications of that for the continued independence and private orientation of health care are ominous.

The protections to private property offered by Obamacare are both robust and obvious.

while tobin may be somewhat better than Kirkpatrick, calling himself conservative is quite a stretch.
