Republican Hits Kirkpatrick on Obama’s ‘You Can Keep Your Health Care Plan’ Promise

Arizona House Speaker Andy Tobin went up this week with a new radio spot seeking to tie Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, D-Ariz., to President Barack Obama’s promise that Americans could keep their health plans under his 2010 health care law.
It is one of the first times this cycle that a candidate has used this line of attack against a House Democrat in a campaign advertisements. The National Republican Congressional Committee previously attacked Kirkpatrick on the same issue in a Facebook ad buy.
Tobin’s spot includes audio of Obama’s now famous line, “If you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan.” That line was widely discredited after some customers received cancellation notices from health insurance companies. Obama apologized for the comments to NBC News last month.
It is a four-figure, district-wide ad buy, according to the Tobin campaign. Tobin emailed a link to the ad to supporters and wrote, “Fed up? Help us keep our ad up on the radio.”
The spot is also noteworthy because Tobin is taking on Kirkpatrick one-on-one. He faces a potentially competitive primary that includes state Rep. Adam Kwasman and rancher Gary Kiehne.
The race is rated Tilts Democratic by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.
