Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., raised $1.1 million in the final quarter of 2013 and will report $3.4 million in the bank to kick off her re-election year.

“The support our campaign has generated to date shows that we’ll have the resources we’ll need to run an aggressive, winning campaign this year regardless of whom Republicans nominate to run against Senator Shaheen,” Campaign Finance Director Andy Darkins said in a statement. “Senator Shaheen is proud to have many people supporting everything she does to grow the economy and support New Hampshire’s small businesses and middle-class.”

In December, former Sen. Robert C. Smith announced his bid for the seat.

But Shaheen’s more formidable competition could come from former Massachusetts Republican Sen. Scott P. Brown, who moved to New Hampshire at the end of last year. Brown’s new home, plus his appearances at several events for New Hampshire Republicans, have stoked speculation he will run for the seat.

Brown could run a well-financed campaign and he has national name recognition from his special election victory in 2010. But he might also struggle in the small Granite State, where he likely would face accusations of carpetbagging.

The Senate race is rated Democratic Favored by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.
